grade 8 full curriculum

Recordings of all the Grade 8 Maths topics For the Year.

2

integers

Integers consists of negative and positive numbers. We are going to add, subtract, multiply and divide with integers

BODMAS, squares & roots

Order of operations are important to understand.  Also know the difference between a square and a square root.

Adding and subtracting integers from
Pracmaths

Let me teach you an easy way to understand integers, working with money!!!

Integers – add and subtract like terms

Work with pictures and symbols and like terms become very easy to work with

3

squares & cubes

Understand the difference between a squared number and a square rooted number - also the difference between a cubed number and the cubic root of a number.

4

exponents

Exponents are based on different laws. To understand the laws, I connect each law with a "maths" story.

5

ratio & rate

Ratio is when we write the numbers next to each other and simplify them. Rate is when we divide eg. kilometer per hour or meter per second.

6

financial maths

Financial maths is part of our daily life. We constantly have to buy or sell things. Banks ask interest when you borrow money to buy a house. So it is important to understand financial maths.

Discount, simple interest & percentage

Financial maths is part of your everyday life.  Work out your test marks, by understanding percentage!!!

Percentage profit or loss & simple interest

Percentage profit or loss is a formula that you need to know until grade 12!

Questions on percentage

Revision questions based on percentage

7

number patterns

Recognise patterns in your everyday life and learn how te see mathematical patterns

8

algebraic expressions

An algebraic expression is like a word sentence, except that in maths we use variables that we call terms. These terms are separated with a plus or a negative sign.

9

equations

An equations is where there is an equal sign and you need to solve the value of a variable.

10

fractions & decimals

Fractions are like the fractions you were taught in primary school. Now variables are being added. With decimals there are certain methods or "guidelines" to follow in order to work with them.

Adding and subtracting fractions from Mind Action

Adding and subtracting fractions is important to understand in grade 8 as it will get more and more complicated in later grades.

Adding and subtracting fractions from Spoton textbook

The order of adding and subtracting fractions is very important to understand.  Lets also understand how to get the lowest common denominator

Fractions, surds and decimals from Pracmaths

Lesson on fractions, how to do square or cubic roots and decimals

11

construction of lines

In grade 8 you will be taught how to draw or construct triangles working with the length of sides and having to draw certain size angles.

12

angles and lines

Learn the 10 different types of angles and know the three different types of angles associated with parallel lines.

13

pythagoras

Pythagoras was a Greek philosopher. He developed many mathematical theorems of which the Pythagoras theorem is one of the most know ones. It states that in a right angles triangle, the squares of the two right sides adds up to the square of the third side or the hypotenuse.

14

congruency

Congruency in maths means that a triangle can fit exactly on top of another triangle if one of four sets of requirements are met, for example if 3 sides in one triangle are equal to 3 sides in another triangle, then the two triangles will fit on top of each other.

15

similarity

Similar triangles are where the angles of one triangle is equal to the angles of another triangle. The sides of the triangles are equal in proportion.

16

quadrilaterals

Quadrilaterals have four sides. Quadrilaterals differ from each other, according to their specific properties like equal sides or angles. The typical quadrilaterals are the square, rectangle, rhombus, parallelogram, trapezium and kite

17

area & perimeter

Area is measuring the space of a two dimensional shape and perimeter is the total distance of the outside lengths of a shape.

18

volume & surface area

Volume refers to a three dimensional object and measuring the space it takes up. Volume can be measured in cubic meters or centimeters.

19

conversion

Conversion is when we convert units from meters to millimeters or kilogram to milligram, etc.

20

graphs

A graph is a visual presentation of the relationship between two points

21

Transformation

Conversion is when we convert units from meters to millimeters or kilogram to milligram, etc.

22

statistics (data)

Statistics or data gives us tools to measure information like comparing results of different teachers pupils or analyzing a countries spending habits.

23

PROBABILITY

Probability is about the likelihood that an event is going to take place.

24
