3CONGRUENCY

Congruency is based on the requirements for one triangle to fit exactly onto the second triangle. There are four types.

Congruency from Ken en Verstaan

Exercises based on the four types of congruency.

Congruency from Mind Action - Exercise 4

Learn how to prove one triangle is congruent to another triangle.

4. DECIMALS

Decimals are the numbers between whole numbers. We will look at how to add, subtract, multiply and divide decimals.

Recurring decimals

Sometimes a number will keep on recurring if you divide by a certain number.  This is also important for grade 10.

5. EQUATIONS

With equations we have an equal sign in the middle and we get the variable on one side, until we have a value for the variable.

Equations with fractions

When we have fractions, we can either add them by getting the lowest common denominator or we can multiply and cancel out.

Quadratic equations Classroom Maths

Quadratic equations you recognise when you have a x to the power of 2.  You will get two values for x as an answer.

Exponential equations

You recognise an exponential equation when there is an exponent.  We then always break down the numbers into prime numbers.

Equations and wordsums

Equations can also be written or described by wordsums.  So we translate English into a mathematical equation.

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Phasellus lobortis velit erat, sed dictum orci bibendum ut.

6. Euclidean geometry

Euclidean geometry consists of quadrilaterals - that means shapes with four sides like a square or a parallelogram. We are going to look at the properties of these shapes.

Solving angles of quadrilaterals Mind Action

Here we will be looking at angles inside a square and a parallelogram

Euclidean geometry

In this recording I focus on parallel lines and the FUN angles – corresponding, co-interior and alternate angles.

Revision of grade 8 angles

We need to know and understand all our grade 8 angles before we want to do grade 9 geometry

Conversions

Conversion is knowing how to convert from metres to centimetres or kilograms to grams, etc.

7. EXPONENTS

An exponent is a number (power or index), indicating how many times the base must be multiplied by itself, for eg. 2 to the power of 3 means 2 must be multiplied by itself 3 times: 2 x 2 x 2 = 8.

Exponents from grade 10 Platinum

Starting with the exponential laws working from a grade 10 textbook

Exponential equations from Classroom maths

Exponents are also part of equations.  When we work with exponential equations, always try and make the bases equal and then you can drop them

Exponential equations from Mind Action Series

More exponential equations.  Break down into primenumbers and then drop the bases

Exponential laws explained

To understand and apply exponential laws, I tell “maths stories” and work with associations, so that we can remember the different types of exponential laws.

More complicated exponents

To do well in the exam, it is good to work through complicated sums as well.

Exponents revised

Revision of all types of exponents.

8. FACTORISING

Factorising is when we insert brackets into an expression. In grade 9 we work with 3 types of factorising methods. We will be looking at: 1. The highest common factor 2. The difference between two squares 3. Trinomials

Difference between two squares explained

Difference between two squares is the second type of factorising where we work with squared numbers.

How to factorise trinomials

Factorising trinomials is the third type of factorising where we work with 3 terms that have to be broken up into two brackets.

More trinomials

More trinomial exercises.

Factorise Highest common factor

Factorising type nr 1 where you take out the highest common factor.

Factorise revision

Revision of the three factorising types.

Factorise fractions

Factorising fractions just means that you get the LCD (lowest common denominator)  when you add and cancel out brackets when you divide.

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Phasellus lobortis velit erat, sed dictum orci bibendum ut.

9. FINANCIAL MATHS

Financial maths teaches us about finances and the meaning of concepts like simple and compound interest.

Difference between simple and compound interest

Simple interest is where the interest stays the same and is calculated according to the original amount.  Compound interest changes as it is calculated on the latest balance and therefore always increases.

Financial maths revision and numbers

Different financial questions based on simple and compound interest and hire purchase.

Profit and loss as a percentage

Profit and loss as a percentage is important to understand when you want to run a business.

Compound interest

Compound interest is when the interest grows as it is calculated based on the latest balance.

Compound interest Commission

Commission is a percentage you receive when you sell certain things like property, furniture, etc.

Conversions

Conversions consist of converting between metres and centimetres or litres to millilitres, etc.

10. FUNCTIONS

A function is a graphical representation of input and output values. Equations are all types of graphs.

Functions grade 9 working out the gradient of a straight line

To draw a straight line, we need to work out the gradient which shows how steep a line is.

Methods to draw a straight line

There are three methods to draw a straight line: 1. The table method, 2. the dual intercept method and 3. the gradient – intercept method.

Understanding the gradient of straight lines

The gradient of a straight line tells us how the line will look, whether the line will be an increasing or decreasing line.

Finding the equation of a straight line Mind Action Ex 9 and 10

In this recording we learn to find the y – intercept and work out the gradient by making use of substitution.

Finding the equation of a straight line

In this recording we do more exercises to find the equation of a straight line.

Slope of a line from Classroom Mathematics

More exercises working out the gradient of the straight line.

Methods of drawing a straight line function

Three methods of drawing a straight line.

Understanding parallel and perpendicular gradients

This recording is very important where we look at the gradients of parallel lines and the gradients of perpendicular lines.

Relation between two variables in real life

The relationship of variables in real life can be like days that you are walking and how much kilometres you walked in total.

11. INTEGERS

Integers are positive and negative whole numbers. It does not include decimals. We will look at adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing integers.

Adding and subtracting integers preparation for polynomials

Adding and subtracting like terms is easy if you compare it to money that you have and money that you owe.

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Phasellus lobortis velit erat, sed dictum orci bibendum ut.

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Phasellus lobortis velit erat, sed dictum orci bibendum ut.

15.NUMBER PATTERNS

A number pattern is a sequence of numbers that follow each other according to a specific rule. Patterns can be linear, exponential or geometric .

Different types of number patterns

Different types of number patterns are like a linear pattern which has a constant difference between the numbers or squared numbers,

Finding the rule or the general formula

Here we look at how to find the formula of a linear pattern by looking for a constant difference and substituting a co-ordinate.

Geometric and other patterns

Geometric patterns are formed by shapes for example one triangle in the first position and two triangles in the second position.

Number patterns input and output

More examples of how to try and find the straight line formula.

Revision of number patterns

Various questions based on number patterns.

16.NUMBERS

Numbers are used in every day of our lives. We can categorise numbers into different categories.

Numbers explained

In this recording we look at when numbers are rational and when they are irrational..

Revision of factors, prime numbers, composite numbers

We revise how to write numbers as a product of its prime numbers.  We also look at composite numbers.
